James T. Stimler, Owner


James T. Stimler, Owner – James T. Stimler is a lawyer with over 40 years of legal experience in the areas of Business Law, Real Estate, and Wills Trusts & Estates, including Probate.

The Ohio State Bar Association has certified Attorney Stimler as a specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. This certification makes Jim one of a very small group of attorneys in Ohio to have earned this distinction.

Attorney Stimler represents individuals, businesses, manufacturers, professional service providers [such as doctor groups and dentists], contractors, real estate investors, and partnerships who have asset management concerns in a variety of legal matters.

Jim received his Juris Doctor degree in 1977 from the University of Akron School of Law; his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1974; and he is a graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School, Class of 1970.

A charter member of the Stow-Munroe Falls Rotary Club and a past President of the club, Jim has been active in numerous other community programs. Jim served as Cub Master of Pack 3179 in the Boy Scouts of America when his sons were young, and he is a Past President of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Summit County and served two terms on the Board of Trustees of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Summit County.

Jim is a member of the Akron and Ohio Bar Associations. He also is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association College for Continuing Legal Education, which means that he annually completes 100% more continuing legal education seminar hours than is mandatory for state law licensing. Jim is an avid reader and loves to travel.


Kathleen E. Stimler, of Counsel


Kathleen E. Stimler is a lawyer who has over 37 years of experience in the environmental and government relations practice areas. During her career she has:

  • Counseled large and small businesses about the environmental laws which apply to their business and how to comply with these laws;
  • Analyzed legislative and regulatory environmental proposals and then worked with federal and state lawmakers to reduce the negative impacts of laws on business, while helping businesses develop programs to preserve or improve the environment in which they operate;
  • Worked on contaminated site investigations and the cleanup and redevelopment of “brownfields”;
  • Worked on multi million dollar business transactions and conducted environmental due diligence and drafted “deal” documents relating to the sale, purchase, redevelopment and refinancing of business and real property.

Ms. Stimler co-chaired the Variance Subcommittee that drafted “first wave” rules under the Ohio EPA’s Voluntary Action Program, which provided the first voluntary method for remediating contaminated property and returning it to productive use in the mid-1990’s. She served as environmental counsel to The Tell Companies, Ltd., which worked with the City of Akron, in the award-winning, $30+ million urban recycling of a former manufacturing plant in Akron, Ohio, known as the Advanced Elastomer Systems (AES) world headquarters building.

A frequent lecturer on environment issues, Ms. Stimler was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Akron, School of Law, where she taught a course entitled “Legal Control of the Environment”. She received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Law in 1992 and served as president of the Alumni Association from 1993 to 1996. She also worked for The BFGoodrich Company for 11 years as Manager of Government Relations and Administrator of Environmental Affairs. Kathleen was a partner at the law firm of Amer Cunningham Brennan and at the law firm of Brouse McDowell, before deciding to become Of Counsel to Stimler Law Offices where she works part-time on select environmental projects.

In December 2001, Ms. Stimler completed a term on the Ohio Supreme Court’s Commission for the Certification of Attorneys as Specialists, a position to which she was appointed in 1999. She also was a past president of The Women's Committee of The University of Akron and The Ohio Alliance for the Environment.  She also served on the boards of trustees for the Summit/ Akron Solid Waste Authority, The Ohio Chemical Council, the Greater Akron Musical Association and Community Support Services. Kathleen loves to travel, read, cook and paint.
